Keep immune high: Diabetic friendly fruits

Many Diabetics think it is unsafe to eat fruits that results in increasing their sugar levels. Being a diabetic doesn’t mean you should stop eating fruits. Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not secrete enough insulin or when the cells of the body become resistant to insulin. In either case, the blood sugar cannot get into the cells for storage which then leads to serious complications. Fruits contain important nutrients like Vitamin C, Fibre, and antioxidants. Regular consumption of a variety of fruits and vegetables release the toxins from the body as well as reduce cancer and mortality risk.

Here are some diabetes-friendly fruits to manage your blood sugar:

  • Pomegranate: Pomegranate contains the richest combinations of antioxidants and can protect you from chronic diseases.
  • Jamun (Black plum/Indian blackberry): It is a powerhouse of health benefits. It contains no sucrose that will bring down the sugar levels in blood and urine.

  • Guava: It is a great fruit for diabetes with a low glucose. It is very rich in dietary fiber that helps ease constipation and can lower the chance of developing type 2 diabetes.
  • Watermelon: It is very rich in potassium. It is the best fruit for proper kidney function which keeps your blood uric acid levels in control as well as prevents kidney damaging.
  • Papaya: Natural Oxidants within the fruit make papaya the best choice for diabetes. Diabetics are prone to many elements including heart to nerve damage caused by irregular sugar levels. A papaya diet can help a person to obstruct future cell damage for a better and longer life.
  • Grapes: It modulates the blood glucose with fibre and antioxidants which may lower your risk for blood sugar, heart diseases and high blood pressure.

      My mother is a diabetic and I always asked her not to eat fruits as it will raise her sugar levels.
