The Lantern in the Fog: God’s Gentle Light Guiding the True Path

The Lantern in the Fog: God’s Gentle Light Guiding the True Path

The Lantern in the Fog: God’s Gentle Light Guiding the True Path. Once upon a time, in a quiet village by the river, lived a young man named Arjun. He was known for being honest, but he often believed that his understanding of right and wrong was enough to guide his life.

One evening, while walking back from the fields, Arjun saw his neighbor’s child crying near the well. The boy had dropped a shiny golden bangle into the water. Arjun immediately thought, “If I jump in and fetch it, I’ll be praised. People will call me brave. That’s the right thing to do.”

Without a second thought, he climbed down into the well. The water was deep, and the bangle slipped further into the mud. He struggled, coughing and gasping, yet he refused to give up. His heart whispered, “If I succeed, they’ll admire me. I must do this.”

But as he fought the water, his strength began to fade. Just then, he heard a calm voice inside his heart—so soft, yet powerful:

“Arjun, what you think is right may not be right. The child needs comfort more than the bangle. A life is worth more than gold.”

Startled, Arjun stopped. He realized he had been chasing praise instead of true goodness. Slowly, he climbed out of the well, drenched and shivering.

He knelt beside the boy, held his hand, and said gently, “Don’t cry. That bangle is only an ornament. Your mother’s love for you is brighter than gold. Let’s go home together.”

The boy’s tears dried, and he smiled. The mother, who had been searching frantically, came running. Seeing her child safe, she hugged Arjun with gratitude.

That night, as Arjun prayed before his lamp, he felt a warmth spread in his heart. He realized God hadn’t chosen him for his bravery, but for his willingness to listen. His own idea of right had led him toward danger and pride, but God’s path—simple, humble, and full of love—had saved not just him, but a little boy’s spirit.

From then on, whenever Arjun faced a choice, he paused and asked himself: “Is this truly right, or just what I assume is right?” And he remembered that God’s lantern shines brightest in a clean, humble heart.

Moral: Sometimes, what we assume is right may come from pride or misunderstanding. True righteousness lies in listening to the voice of God within—a voice that values love, kindness, and life above all.
