Anupama 12th January 2026 Written Update: Baby Shower Turns into Custody War, Anupama Draws the Final Line
The episode opens with Vasundhara once again climbing onto her favorite high horse, this time armed with a brand-new insult. She tells Anupama to get herself and the entire Shah family medically checked. According to Vasundhara, no “normal” people behave the way Anupama and the Shahs do. The comment is sharp, dismissive, and deliberately cruel. Anupama, already used to such jabs, doesn’t let it slide. She questions Vasundhara’s authority to judge anyone’s mental state, especially when she herself chose to give Gautam a second chance despite knowing he ill-treated Prarthana.
That hits a nerve. Vasundhara fires back, accusing Anupama of behaving mentally ill. The words hang heavy in the room. This is where Anupama stops playing polite. She firmly asks Vasundhara to stop mocking mental illness and reminds her that depression is not a joke or a taunt to be thrown around when arguments run out. Vasundhara dismisses it as yet another Anupama lecture, clearly irritated that she’s being corrected in public.
But Anupama doesn’t stop. Calm yet emotionally charged, she explains something that clearly goes over the heads of half the people present. She says everyone looks normal from the outside, but many people carry grief, sadness, and depression quietly within them. She points toward Parag and Khyati, reminding everyone how they have forgotten how to laugh after Aryan’s death. The room falls silent for a moment. Anupama pleads with everyone to stop casually using or ridiculing words connected to mental health. Before stepping back, she apologizes to Ansh and Prarthana for ruining what was supposed to be their special day.
Prem tries to play peacemaker and damage controller. He says the matter wasn’t that big and got unnecessarily exaggerated. In classic Prem fashion, he decides to deal with it later, choosing to shift focus back to the baby shower. Khyati announces that it’s time for gifts and blessings for Ansh and Prarthana. The mood tries to recover, but the cracks are already too deep.
Gautam, with his smug confidence intact, announces that he will give the first gift. Shockingly, Parag allows it. Mahi jumps in, declaring that Gautam has every right to give the first gift to Prarthana. That statement alone raises several eyebrows, but what comes next leaves everyone stunned.
Gautam hands over a set of papers to Ansh and Prarthana. Their expressions change instantly. Leela asks what the papers are, sensing trouble before it even unfolds. Vasundhara, without hesitation or shame, explains the contents. According to these papers, after delivery, Prarthana can go wherever she wants, but the baby will stay with Gautam, who will raise the child. As if that wasn’t enough, Mahi confidently announces that she will be the baby’s mother.
The room explodes.
Anupama loses all patience and accuses the Kotharis of being completely out of their minds. She calls out their habit of creating drama where none is needed. Vasundhara defends the decision by saying that conflicts will inevitably arise between Ansh and Gautam over the baby, and Ansh won’t be capable of raising the child. Parag backs her up, asking Prarthana to understand their perspective and insisting that the baby should stay at the Kothari house.
That’s the final straw.
A visibly shattered and furious Prarthana announces that only Ansh is her baby’s father. She declares that she is leaving immediately and will return to the Shah house. Ansh doesn’t hesitate for even a second and stands by her, ready to leave. But Gautam, showing his true colors yet again, grabs Prarthana’s hand and refuses to let her go.
Ansh snaps, demanding Gautam to leave her hand. The tension skyrockets. Anupama steps in immediately and orders Gautam to step back. Vasundhara tries to silence her by calling it a family matter, but Anupama shuts that argument down instantly. She reminds Vasundhara that both families are involved and that Prarthana has already chosen Ansh as her baby’s father.
Ansh, on the verge of breaking down, pleads with the Kotharis not to snatch his child from him. Gautam, cold and unapologetic, declares that he will not give up his right over the baby. Anupama responds with absolute clarity. She states that Gautam has no rights because he is no longer Prarthana’s husband. Her voice doesn’t shake when she announces that she is taking Prarthana back to the Shah house and openly dares anyone to stop her.
Khyati, torn but sensible, allows Prarthana to leave and says she can visit the baby anytime. Mahi panics and urges Parag to intervene. Anupama stands firm, challenging anyone who has the courage to block their path. Parag finally steps forward and asks Anupama to leave Prarthana’s hand. Anupama refuses without blinking.
Parag questions who will take care of Prarthana if she leaves. Anupama’s reply is sharp, direct, and deeply satisfying. She says Ansh is more than capable, unlike Gautam, who abused his wife. She adds that in the Shah house, Hasmukh and Ansh know how to respect women, something the Kotharis clearly struggle with.
The argument between Parag and Anupama turns heated and personal. Parag asks Prarthana if she’s leaving in anger. Prarthana replies with heartbreaking honesty. She says she isn’t leaving in anger, she’s leaving because she is completely shattered.
The episode ends on that heavy note, leaving emotions raw and alliances fractured.
Precap
Vasundhara asks Prarthana to come with her. Anupama asks her to step back and pushes her away. Parag announces that everyone must choose a side and declares that anyone who supports Anupama will have no relationship with the Kotharis. Prem, Raja, and Khyati openly choose Anupama’s side. Parag then turns to Rahi and asks her to choose between him and Anupama. Rahi stands frozen in the middle, torn between blood and belief.
Anupama 12th January 2026 Written Update Review
This episode is one of Anupama’s strongest in recent weeks. The show finally stops dancing around issues and addresses mental health, domestic abuse, and parental rights with clarity. Anupama’s stand against mocking mental illness feels timely and necessary, while Gautam’s actions confirm yet again why he should never be trusted. The baby shower turning into a custody battlefield is dramatic but painfully realistic in the context of the Kothari mindset. Prarthana finally finding her voice is refreshing, and Ansh standing by her without hesitation adds emotional depth. The precap promises an explosive showdown, especially with Rahi being forced to choose. Overall, a powerful, uncomfortable, and gripping episode that reminds viewers why Anupama still works when it chooses honesty over noise.
