This episode brings Anupama back to one of the show’s strongest themes: a woman’s right to build a life and identity of her own.
The opening track with the woman at the café works as an interesting parallel to Anupama’s own situation. Anupama tells another woman not to depend on anyone else for her security and encourages her to build her own house. Yet, within the same episode, Anupama herself is offered a house—but at the cost of something deeply important to her.
That makes Vasundhara’s offer particularly interesting.
Anupama has worked hard in the competition, and deliberately losing would not simply mean giving up a trophy. It would mean allowing someone else to decide the outcome of her hard work.
The Shah house confrontation is also painful because Paritosh and Pakhi once again reduce the question of family to property and inheritance. Hasmuk’s response is important because he reminds them that he and Leela have the right to decide what happens to their own property.
The most interesting conflict, however, is now Anupama versus Vasundhara’s bargain.
Vasundhara is trying to use Anupama’s dream against her. The question is whether Anupama will accept the shortcut or refuse to compromise her hard-earned victory.
