What makes this phase work is that the show does not portray him as completely helpless. He is taking responsibility for rebuilding his life, while Anu stands beside him without making him feel inadequate.

Anu caring for Arya’s painful legs and bringing back the watch he had once given her becomes one of the episode’s sweetest moments. Her telling him that his time will change carries more meaning because Arya is currently going through such a difficult phase. His response that his good time actually began when Anu entered his life keeps their relationship at the emotional centre of the story. Their chemistry feels natural here because neither is trying to solve everything; they are simply giving each other comfort.
