Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan Episode Review: Sahana Chooses Self-Respect as She Finally Breaks Free From Murli
This is easily one of the most powerful episodes in Sahana’s entire journey. The panchayat track could have easily turned into another round of elders telling a woman to compromise, but the episode deliberately challenges that mindset by finally giving Sahana the space to speak about everything she has endured.
The strongest aspect is that Sahana’s decision does not come across as an impulsive reaction to Murli’s mistakes. She explains the long chain of events that destroyed her trust—from the dowry humiliation and fake jewellery to Kaushalya’s manipulation, Manoj’s behaviour, the accusations against her character and, most painfully, Murli abandoning her after she consumed the poisoned laddoo.
That last betrayal remains the emotional breaking point. Sahana had already gone to extraordinary lengths to prove her innocence, yet Murli still failed to trust her when she needed him most. Her statement that she has forgiven him but cannot forget what happened gives the decision much more emotional maturity.
The panchayat’s insistence that a woman’s identity is tied to marriage is deliberately frustrating, and Sneha’s challenge to that thinking works well. She refuses to let the same people who ignored Sahana’s suffering dictate her future. Durgavati also deserves credit for stopping the panchayat from deciding everything before hearing Sahana’s side.
Ganga’s position is perhaps the most emotionally complicated. She admits that she does not want Sahana’s marriage to end, yet she refuses to make the decision for her daughter. That is a significant evolution for their relationship. Ganga’s greatest achievement here is not saving Sahana’s marriage; it is giving her daughter the freedom to choose.
And then comes the mangalsutra moment.
Sahana returning it to Murli is far more impactful than simply saying she wants a divorce. She is symbolically returning a relationship in which she feels she lost her dignity. Her declaration that she can live without love or a life partner but cannot live without respect becomes the emotional thesis of the entire track.
The episode also wisely keeps Indu’s jail escape scheme running in the background, but it does not distract from Sahana’s defining moment.
Rating: 4.9/5
Sahana has spent long enough proving her innocence to everyone else. This time, she finally chooses to prove something to herself: her self-respect matters.
