Aap Jaisa Koi Trailer: Fatima Sana Shaikh and R. Madhavan Flip Traditional Roles in Netflix’s New Romance

Aap Jaisa Koi Trailer: Fatima Sana Shaikh and R. Madhavan Flip Traditional Roles in Netflix’s New Romance. Netflix has unveiled the trailer of Aap Jaisa Koi, starring Fatima Sana Shaikh as Madhu Bose and R. Madhavan as Shrirenu, and it’s a refreshing twist to your typical romance dramas.

The trailer opens with Shrirenu talking to his mother on a video call. She’s busy prepping his biodata to send to Madhu’s family. In typical desi mom style, she edits his age from 42 to 39, thinking a few shaved-off years will guarantee a good match. Shrirenu just chuckles and asks her about the girl. His mother tells him Madhu is a teacher and 32 years old. Hearing this, Shrirenu feels the match is perfect. “She’s 32, single, never married before… ideal,” he says with a hopeful smile.

When they meet, Shrirenu teases Madhu, saying, “Your name should have been Madhubala, not Madhu Bose.” Madhu still keeps flowers tucked in books, carrying that poetic nostalgia of old-school lovers.

The trailer offers light roasts at society’s outdated views. Shrirenu’s dad observes women today drinking, playing cards, and discussing politics, as Madhu watches quietly, confused and fascinated. But under Shrirenu’s shy facade lies a man with deeply rooted traditional expectations. He tells Madhu, “I like you, Madhu. I am a very simple man. I come from a decent family. I want a decent family for myself too. I’ll allow you to do whatever you want… but within limits.”

Madhu shuts him down instantly. “Why should you decide my limits?” she asks, not hiding her disappointment. Her words sting but feel powerful and real. She continues, “Aren’t you a professor of Sanskrit, Shri? Yet you haven’t been able to understand the definition of love. Love only wants love in return, equal love. You and I, equal.”

The confrontation deepens when Shrirenu’s dad asks him, “Is there any other man who has allowed his wife to work at this age?” Shrirenu’s mom snaps, “Who are you to allow me? Later, Shrirenu sadly conveys the message to Madhu: The wedding is cancelled!” His final words, “You and I… it’s just not going to work out.” Madhu remarks “You’re just like the others,” leave Shrirenu speechless.

The trailer ends with Shrirenu watching Madhu walk away, realising that the love he thought was his becomes just another missed chapter in his life.

Directed with warmth and realism, Aap Jaisa Koi promises to explore marriage, respect, equality, and the quiet power of choosing yourself over outdated norms. Fatima Sana Shaikh brings vulnerability and strength to Madhu Bose, while R. Madhavan’s Shrirenu is layered with both regressive beliefs and subtle insecurities.

The film streams on Netflix from July 11, 2025, ready to question everything you thought you knew about ‘ideal’ matches.
