Anupama 28th August 2026 Written Update: Anupama’s Taste-Bud Secret Is Exposed, Ustaad Ji’s Toughest Test
Today’s episode begins with Anupama explaining the importance of bitter gourd. She points out that everyone knows bitter gourd is commonly recommended for people dealing with high blood sugar, so she does not want to bore everyone by repeating the same information. She instead moves on to another important ingredient—jaggery—and explains how it can be used in food.
Anupama recalls that Sarita taught her a Marathi dish that uses jaggery and explains that jaggery can also aid digestion. Ustaad Ji listens carefully and points out that Anupama has already explained the importance of six Ayurvedic ingredients, but he is curious about what she has served in the earthen pot.
Anupama reveals that the dish inside the earthen pot does not belong to any particular state. Instead, it is something that has become a favourite across the country. She talks about kheer, explaining that it is loved by almost everyone and is prepared in different parts of the country under different names and with different variations.
Her explanation leaves Prem shocked. Anupama manages to impress the judges with the way she connects food, tradition and its importance in everyday life. The judges and the contestants applaud her presentation.
Roy calls Anupama a “food encyclopaedia.” He jokes that if the competition were still running, he would have gone straight to Anupama’s mother and demanded that she make him some kheer. Manpreet also admits that she is impressed by Anupama. She says she has always seen Anupama playing the victim, but she has never really seen this side of her.
However, Manpreet quickly reminds everyone that a food competition cannot be won through explanations alone. According to her, taste matters just as much as knowledge, and if Anupama fails to deliver on taste, her points will be deducted. Leela immediately notices the change in Manpreet’s tone and remarks that she praised Anupama one moment and returned to taunting her the next.
The competition takes an unexpected turn when Ustaad Ji announces that Prem and Anupama will judge each other’s dishes. Pakhi immediately realises that Gautam’s plan is working. Gautam is pleased with how things are unfolding and decides that he is ready to put his next plan into action.
Anupama, meanwhile, is visibly worried. She knows that tasting the food could expose her secret. She considers telling the truth, but before she can say anything, the judges instruct her and Prem to taste each other’s thalis.
Prem tastes Anupama’s thali, but Anupama remains frozen. Everyone starts wondering why she is not eating. Instead, she carefully smells the dishes placed before her.
When the judges ask them to comment on each other’s food, Prem begins judging Anupama’s thali. He points out that her presentation is once again lacking and claims that the flavours are overpowering. Prerna questions the situation, pointing out that Prem is judging Anupama even though he himself was unaware of what was actually in his own thali.
At this point, Anupama finally decides that she cannot hide the truth any longer. She prepares to tell the judges that she has lost her sense of taste.
However, before Anupama can fully explain herself, Gautam informs the makers about her condition. The host immediately accuses Anupama of cheating in the competition. Roy, Manpreet and Ustaad Ji are shocked by the allegation and demand that the host explain exactly how Anupama has cheated.
Vasundhara watches the situation carefully and believes that whatever happens next, Prem will ultimately benefit from it.
Ustaad Ji insists that the host prove his accusation. The host accepts the challenge and decides to test Anupama himself. He asks her to taste mango and tamarind candy and identify them.
Anupama admits that she cannot tell what she is tasting. She then reveals that the host stopped her from speaking earlier, because she had been about to tell everyone the truth—that she lost her sense of taste the previous night.
Anupama makes it clear that she never intended to cheat. That is precisely why she did not taste Prem’s thali. She explains that she had actually decided to step away from the competition after losing her taste buds. However, Hasmuk, Digvijay and the other family members reminded her that she has cooked many times without tasting the food herself.
Their words gave Anupama the confidence to continue.
Anupama then addresses Prem’s criticism that her flavours are overpowering. She says that while he may feel that way, she is confident about the ratios she has used because the dishes she prepared follow the same proportions traditionally used in their respective states.
Manpreet is still stunned by Anupama’s confidence. She asks whether Anupama is truly so certain about her years of cooking experience that she can prepare all these dishes without tasting them.
Anupama simply reminds her that she made the dishes herself.
Ustaad Ji, however, is not satisfied yet. He takes the challenge one step further and asks Anupama whether she can identify what is in Prem’s thali merely by smelling it.
Anupama is left completely shocked.
And with that, the episode ends on a tense note.

The finale takes a celebratory turn as Anupama wins the competition. Arman and Abhira join her in celebrating the victory. Arman says he wants to taste Anupama’s famous Bahubali Thali, while Abhira reveals that she has brought something special for Anupama.
The Shah family also joins the celebrations as they dance with Anupama, Abhira and Arman.
Review
Anupama’s food knowledge has officially entered “walking encyclopedia” territory, but today the real drama was not about what she cooked—it was about how she cooked it without being able to taste it. The reveal about her lost taste buds finally puts the competition on a genuinely interesting track. And Ustaad Ji’s final question about identifying Prem’s thali by smell is a pretty solid cliffhanger.
The precap, meanwhile, has already spoiled the biggest question: Anupama wins! Now the fun is in seeing how she gets there.
